CENAMAD ANID Basal Research Center

The National Wood Industry Center (CENAMAD), in Spanish “Centro Nacional de la Madera”, is sponsored by the Chilean government ANID (National Research & Development Agency) office. This project grant promotes several areas of collaboration among several Chilean universities, industry, research organizations, and public  services in order to promote the sustainable use of wood as a key raw material in Chile. Its major goal is to enhance solid wood use on construction & alternative uses of fiber, bioproducts and advanced materials under an umbrella of sustainable use, smart products and clear understanding of environmental wood footprints of products.

CENAMAD grants are awarded for five years with the chance of renewal. The project started in November 2021 at UdeC, and the research priorities for this project are:

  1. Provide an estimate of water and carbon footprint of wood products

  2. Develop a life cycle analysis of alternative silvicultural systems focused on solid wood products

  3. Model silvicultural treatments and forest productivity footprints on a spatial scale

Funding from this project will provide support for a dedicated post-doctoral research associate, a field technician, and small seed grants to pursue exploratory collaborative research lines during its first year and larger-scale projects during the following years.
